Franco Joly discovers this medium in the 90s. He begins to work with an old camera using photgraphic film he learns how to develop on paper. But, soon he is seduced by digital camera which enables - with the help of a computer to transform deeply his images according to his taste. In his first significant works, he paraphrases the daily papr's newsreel - even using royalty free images which have have been seen on old papers - to reinvent his own newsreel.

Then he seems to be attracted by abstraction. From this point, his photos resemble abstract paintings. He obtains this result by manipulating his own pictures with the help of a computer. He uses his mouse as a brush to get what he wants. During this period, the presence of human being is scarce in his photos. But, lately , he seems to be drawn to human faces more and more which appear on an abstract background. Some of his pictures printed on canvas are enhanced by acrylic painting. From 2021 he also begins to make animated pictures in order to transform them in NFTs .
